Description :Vitamin A (retinyl acetate): minimum 1,000,000 IU/g of activity.

Properties :Vitamin A is an unsaturated, monoalcohol retinol, which is only found naturally in animal tissues. Vegetables contain carotene precursors, of which beta-carotene has the greatest biopotency. The vitamin's main functions are: action on sight to prevent night blindness, skeletal development, reproductive performance, formation and maintenance of epithelial tissue and involvement in the production of corticosteroids in the adrenal gland (anti-stress effect).

Requirements :The type and level of production is an important factor since the requirements increase as the level of production increases. Gestation, lactation and egg production involve increased vitamin A requirements. Situations of stress, very hot environmental conditions, viral infections and thyroid disorders are all suggested causes for reduced efficiency in the conversion of carotene into vitamin A. In poultry, coccidiosis causes the destruction of this vitamin, as well as reducing its absorption.
