VITAMINE H - (biotine)

Description : Biotin: minimum 2.0% of activity.

Properties : Biotin, or Vitamin H, is an essential coenzyme in the metabolism of carbohydrates, fat and proteins. This vitamin participates in the transformation of carbohydrates into proteins and vice versa, and the conversion of proteins and carbohydrates into fats. Biotin plays an important role in maintaining the blood glucose levels from the metabolism of proteins and fats when the carbohydrate intake is low.
Biotin is important for the normal functioning of the thyroids, adrenal glands, reproductive tract and nervous system. However, the effect of biotin deficiency on the skin is most pronounced, as severe dermatitis is the most significant and obvious clinical sign in livestock and poultry.

Requirements : Biotin requirements are difficult to establish due to the variability of its content in feedstuffs and its bioavailability. It is a vitamin synthesised by microorganisms in the intestinal tract but in certain species it is not known how much biotin is synthesised by microorganisms or how much can be used by the host.
