Vitamine K3
Vitamine K3
:Activity : Vitamin K3: minimum 51.5% of activity*.
*(Menadione)
Vitamin K3: minimum 93% MSB, dry basis.
Properties : Vitamin K3 or Menadione is essential for the maintenance of the blood coagulation system in animals, its main function being to control clotting time. Some experimental data has suggested that vitamin K could also be related to the metabolism of calcium.
Requirements :Although vitamin K is synthesised by intestinal microorganisms, cases of deficiency have been observed in field conditions. Poultry, and to a lesser extent pigs, are susceptible to vitamin K deficiency. In poultry it has been observed that the anticoagulant action of vitamin K is damaged by aflatoxins and by prolonged treatments with antibiotics. In ruminants, this deficiency can occur as a result of eating sweet clover hay in a poor state (a natural source of dicumarol, a vitamin K antagonist).
